Ron Howard Offers Role

According to the SKMB Ron Howard has offered the role of Roland to Javier Bardem.  No word as to whether he has excepted the role though.

Ron has admitted to devoting a lot of time to The Dark Tower, spending a full year prior to taking on the project.  (My feeling is that Ron Howard wants to get it right.  If this film is done correctly it could gross more than LotR with a huge King following to tout it or it could fail horribly if too much time is spent on logistics.  Unfortunately, time is money in Hollywood so I have to wonder what is going to suffer to try to keep the costs down.)

Ron explained that this project is very exciting because there is so much room for interpretation. (Personally, that is the appeal of Stephen King's books; he doesn't have to spell out every aspect of his books to his readers. King has always allowed us, his constant readers, to dream and create images with our own minds based on our own experiences to fill in the grey areas. In my opinion, I have always disliked when a movie seems to "plagiarize" the work of an author. A film should have some individuality or slight differences from its original source. There should be some allowances for a director/producer to have a creative vision, otherwise it would be just a copy, usually a bad copy, of the original. I’m just sayin’.)

Question of the Day #43: What is your opinion on Ron Howard as Director for 'The Dark Tower' series?

King made an excellent decision in choosing Ron Howard for The Dark Tower series but I don't think their idea to do a trilogy would cover all seven books.  Although, I'm sure Ron Howard doesn't want to spend the next 10+ years on one massive project either.  So I could see why they would want to do it as a trilogy as opposed to what they did with the Harry Potter movies.  What do you think?

'The Dark Tower' now in Ron Howard's hands

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot production company, which has long sought to crack Stephen King's "The Dark Tower" book series as a television series, no longer has the rights to one of the author's biggest properties.

Bad Robot has returned the rights to the best-selling author. Now Ron Howard, Brian Grazer and Akiva Goldsman are teaming up to tackle the fantasy Western.

The three are in discussions to adapt the material as a movie, to be written by Goldsman and directed by Howard, that would lead to a TV series produced by Imagine's small-screen division.

"Tower" is not set up for production, nor has any option deal been made, but insiders say Universal, home to full story

Ron Howard is such a gifted filmmaker, directing films such as The Da Vinci Code, and A Beautiful Mind (This is a  film I will never forget as long as I live.  I still think Russell Crowe should have won Best Actor for that film.  He won Best Actor in my book.)  The Dark Tower films would be epic and they would blow LOTR out of the water.  Let casting for Roland begin....

My spouse broke down and got subscriptions for all Stephen King Comics!!!

After trying to chase the comics I'm missing, and being strong-armed into getting a subscription to them,  my spouse signed me up! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!  Missing out on the variants and such was not good either.  So, there goes whatever disposable income our family had left! Oh well, it is SK!

Local comic book stores that ordered light are already sold out, as a matter of fact, they were sold out of The Talisman: The Road Of Trials #3 and also The Stand: Soul Suvivors # 3.  Hopefully they will get another shipment before the end of the month.  A subscription is probably the only way anymore, I guess.

N., the story from Just After Sunset, comic to be released March 2010. If you liked the story N. get ready to see it released in comic book form which will be in four issues by Marvel. I can tell you that I have been loving the comics that have been released recently, The Stand, The Dark Tower Series, and The Talisman. Also, look forward to the new vampire series American Vampire in March 2010 teaming with Vertigo (all new King, woo hoo!)
